Charley Whatley

Charley Otis Whatley, 86 of West Point, MS. passed away on Thursday March 25, 2021 at home. A native of West Point, he moved back to the area from Saraland, AL in 1992 upon retiring from SCOTT Paper Company in Mobile, AL after 31 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West Point. He is survived by three sons (and wives): Russell Whatley (Sherrie) of Union City, TN, John Whatley (Heidi) of Lynchburg, VA, and James Whatley (Lisa) of Lucedale, MS; along with 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Bethany, Hannah, Sarah, Alex, Heather, Heath, Michael, Jessica, Cara, Jay, Rebecca, Juliana and 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a brother, Herman, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenda Whatley; granddaughter, Lydia; and brother James Whatley. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday April 3, 2021 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be his sons, and his grandsons, Jay, Heath, and Nathan. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Latham and Donald Bowls. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Saturday April 3, 2021 at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the McPherson Cemetery c/o Luke Robinson PO Box 732 West Point, MS 39773.
