Eleanor Gibbons Dalton passed away Saturday September 30, 2017 at Waverly Care Home at the age of 97. She was born April 6, 1920 in Rome, GA to the late Jessie Barnett and Robert M. Gibbons, Sr. She graduated from Shorter University in Rome, GA, and then received her Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California in Davis, CA. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. She was a member of UDC and Clay County Historical & Genealogy Society. She was past president of ECW, DAR, and Clay County Unit of American Cancer Society. She married Jack E. Dalton on Oct. 20, 1949 in Jackson, MS. They lived in West Point where she was a librarian for the West Point School System for many years.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday October 3, 2017 at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation with the Reverend Dr. Lynn Ronaldi officiating. Visitation will be 12:30-1 PM Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Sugg, Todd Glusencamp, Keith Mooney, Kyle Chandler IV, Michael Booker, Robbie Robinson. Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence and Annie Frye, Dr. Ed Miller, Dr. Susan Hesse, Bill and Sandy Gentry, staff of Waverly Care Home.
She is survived by her nephew, David A. Ross (Angela) of Las Vegas, NV; nieces, Lynn G. Riedell (Alec) of Rome, GA, Linda Gibbons of Atlanta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack E. Dalton, who passed away Dec. 30, 1989; brothers, William S. Gibbons, Robert M. Gibbons, Jr., Harry M. Gibbons, CMSGT Charles N. Gibbons; sister, Jessie G. Ross; nephew, Robert M. Gibbons, III.
