The Lord, with His perfect timing welcomed Eva Elizabeth Whitlock Smith, age 97 of West Point, to her heavenly home Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, after a lifetime of loving and serving others. She passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point after a brief illness." And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28.
Eva was born Jan, 22, 1920, in Franklin County, Alabama, to Abner Ligon Whitlock and Ada Florence Taylor. Eva was a homemaker and mother who loved her husband and children with all her heart. Eva was loved by everyone who met her. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point, she loved being part of the Women's Missionary Union, where she served as president numerous times and held every office. Eva was a faithful visitor to the homes of those who did not have a church home to invite them to be part of the First Baptist family. She enjoyed gardening and loved creating craft projects and quilting. She married George Anderson Smith April 11, 1943, in Russellville, Alabama. He preceded her in death, Nov. 22, 2003.
A celebration of life service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church, with Bro. Dale Funderburg officiating.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; one sister; and one son-in-law, C.H. "Stretch" Dunn.
She is survived by three daughters: Beth Smith (Harry) of Memphis, Tennessee, Joan Dunn of Birmingham, Alabama, and Donna Harris (Edgar) of West Point; six grandchildren: Leslie Jones (Rex) of Memphis, Tennessee, William Harris (Brandi) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Kelly Harris of West Point, Taylor Harris of West Point, Steven Dunn (Karen) of Maryville, Tennessee, Cheryl Dunn Faber (Daryl) of Land O' Lakes, Florida; ten great-grand children: Barrett Jones of Memphis, Tennessee, Harrison Jones (Julia) of Tallahassee, Florida, Walker Jones (Caroline) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Bailee Harris of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sadie Harris of Shreveport, Louisiana, Jessica Dunn of Maryville, Tennessee, Lauren Dunn of Maryville, Tennessee, Alyssa Dunn of Maryville, Tennessee, Cameron Faber of Land O' Lakes, Florida, and Peyton Faber of Land O' Lakes, Florida.
