A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Hattiesburg on Wednesday April 13, 2022, at 11:00 AM for Mrs. Jacqueline June McCartney McFadden, 74, of Petal, MS.

She died peacefully at Forrest General Hospital on April 8, 2022, after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer.

“Jackie” was born in St. Louis, MO on August 30, 1947, to the late Capt. Robert Lawton McCartney, Jr. and Jane Elizabeth May McCartney. Her father was a WWII Marine Corps bomber pilot who died stateside during the Korean Conflict when she was five years old, and her mother, who passed in 1982, was a homemaker who also worked at Jackie’s school cafeteria during her youth. After her father’s death, her mother built a home in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, MO. Jackie attended grade school at St. Gerard Majella Catholic School and graduated from Ursuline Academy. Upon graduation, Jackie enrolled in nursing school at St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s and Incarnate Word Hospitals in St. Louis before meeting her husband, Dennis, in 1980. The newlywed couple moved to Clarksdale, MS where he worked as an accountant, eventually for the State Audit Department and her as a career Health Department nurse in Coahoma County.

Jackie retired from the Health Department in 2006, and she and Dennis soon moved to Petal, MS where he still resides. She spent thousands of hours during her life cross stitching, crocheting, and sewing. Her children and grandchildren will cherish these treasures forever. As well, she was a Cub Scout pack leader for her boys in Pack 28 at Oakhurst Baptist in the 1990’s. The family was active in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, serving in many ministries throughout their time in Clarksdale.

Jackie was a great friend to many and a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of 41 years, her sons, Robert George Lofton McFadden (Mandy) and Michael Dennis McCartney McFadden, her brother Robert “Bob” McCartney, III, and her six grandchildren: Bo (16), Eli (15), Will (13), Bella (11), Hannah (8) who shares the same birthday as her Grandma, and Gemma (8).
