James Ernest Cothran passed away January 1, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle at the age of 84. He was born January 22, 1932 in Swift Town, MS to the late Sally Lou Powell and John Wesley Cothran. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a Decon at Siloam Baptist Church for 48 Years. He worked 30 years at B&W and 30 years at 4-County as a meter reader. He loved working in the garden and riding horses. He was known around town as the ‘Peanut Brittle Man’.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday January 4, 2017 at 11 AM at Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Doran Henry and Rev. Payton Myers officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny White, JT Rhea, Robert “Red” Rhea, Claude Cartee, Gene Allen Sanders, Layman Watson, Shawn Sanders, Shane Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Siloam Baptist Church, Eddie Chestnut, Dennis Lang, Sonny Kelly, Buddy Sizemore. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8 PM at Robinson Funeral Home and Wednesday 10-11 AM at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Cothran of West Point; daughters, Barbara Poss (Billy), Lynne Sizemore (Gary) both of West Point; 6 grandchildren, Jim Lang, Stacy Berry, Crystal Bouchard, Brandy Blackburn, Matt Poss, Dana Poss; 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and 2 step sisters.
