Vera Jeanette Thornton of West Point passed away on Thursday October 10, 2013 at Dugan Memorial Home at the age of 82. She was born January 16, 1931 in Pontotoc County to the late Lillian Sullinger and Clark Dunlap. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and owner of Hearts of Dixie publishing company and she sang with the Hearts of Dixie Duet. She was a Sunday school teacher and choir member and a woman of God.
Funeral services will be Saturday October 12, 2013 at 10 AM at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. James Moore and Rev. Larry Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery in Union County with a 1 PM graveside service. Visitation will be Friday October 11, 2013 from 5-7 PM at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will lie in state from 9-10 AM Saturday at the church. Pallbearers will be Rhett Dunlap, Caldwell Dunlap, Van Morris, Justin Thornton, Kevin Thornton, Jym Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Adair, Tom Borgioli, Theo Coggins and staff at Dugan Memorial Home.
She is survived by her husband Jamie Thornton of West Point; sons, Gene Thornton (Kathy) of Okolona, Eddie Thornton (Claudia) of Saltillo; daughters, Kay Coggins (Theo) of West Point, Diane Moore (Jym) of Orange, TX; brother, Larry Dunlap (Dottie) of Guntown; sister, Christine Dunlap Adair of New Albany; 6 grandchildren, Melissa Borgioli (Tom) of West Point, Jamye Morris (Van) of Birmingham, AL, Kimberly Merrick of Craig, CO, Kevin Thornton of Iuka, Justin Thornton (Beth) of Starkville, James Moore (Cheryl) of Longview, TX; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Hoyle Dunlap and Roy Dunlap.
