Laddie Luther Huffman went to his heavenly home on February 24, 2025, at the age of 77. He was a native and resident of Clay County, Mississippi. Laddie was a man who lived his life helping others, especially the citizens of Clay County. Laddie Huffman was born August 12, 1947, to the late Viola Mae Gunther and Alton Newell Huffman in West Point, Mississippi. After Laddie graduated from West Point High School in 1967, he went on to study Political Science and Education at Mississippi State University. After graduating, Laddie served as Selectman on Board of Alderman. He served as Justice Court Judge for eight years. He then went on to serve as sheriff for twenty years. Although his job as judge and sheriff was to uphold and enforce the law, he always showed love and compassion to everyone. He did not see color, he saw all people as the same. Laddie believed in treating others as he would want to be treated. He lived his life this way. He used his job as judge and sheriff to help people, not punish them. During his time as sheriff, he never carried a gun. Laddie cared deeply for Clay County, not only with his words; but more importantly with his actions and energy. He put so much of his time and energy into helping people. Laddie loved his community and in return, they loved him.
In 1970, Laddie met the love of his life and beloved wife, Dale. He finally married her on May 6, 1977. This was something he loved to joke about. Laddie and Dale went on to have four children, Angela, Jeff, Joseph, and Jacob. Laddie was also a devout Christian and member of Prairie Baptist Church. Laddie retired in 2011. He spent his retirement doing the things he loved. This included packing up the RV with his wife, Dale, and heading off across the country on their many adventures. He also loved spending time at his home in UNA. Laddie loved fishing. He also enjoyed watching his many grandchildren fish and swim at their lake. On any Saturday, you could find Laddie working on barbeque. He would tell you to pull up a chair and you knew you would be in for a treat. Not only was his bbq phenomenal, but his stories were even better. Laddie was such an incredible story teller. He never shied away from telling a good story and his stories were hilarious. You could sit and listen to them all day. Laddie will be truly missed. He was a man who never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dale Huffman; his daughter, Angela Goodwin (Josh); his sons, Jeff Huffman, Joseph Huffman (Ginny), and Jacob Huffman; his grandchildren, Hazard Zepponi, Charlie Zepponi, Adabelle Huffman, Mary Dell Huffman, Bernard Goodwin, and Alora Huffman, his step-brother, Bobby Huffman (Sherry).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Silas Ladd Huffman; and his siblings, Margaret Hoover, Louise Elliot, William Huffman, and Alton Huffman.
