Luther Clark Swords, passed away Tuesday , March 24, 2015 in Arizona at the age of 86. He was born in Union County on September 17, 1928 to the late Lois Massey and Hubert Swords. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp. He earned a Master of Science degree at MSU and worked for the Cooperative Extension Service in Clay County. He served 10 years as the 4-H Youth Agent and 18 years as County Agricultural Agent. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be Monday March 30, 2015 at 2 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Union County. Visitation will be Monday from 12-2 PM at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Langford, Marcus Taylor, Jamie Towery, Saad Tabet, Carl Shirley, Bobby Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Whitson, Charles Brand, Jack Elliott, Dr. Barney Sears, Emitt Hood, Roy Doss, Corey Brooks, Gene Nace, the Tin Lizzy Coffee Club, and the MS Ext Service Co Workers.
He is survived by his wife, Alice “Cotton” Swords of West Point; saughter, Sandra Donour (Gary) of West Point; brother, Roy Swords of Delaware; sisters, Serene Threatt of Oxford, Lila Hiten (Larry) of Langle, OK, Willodean Montanez of Whita, KS; 3 Grandchildren, Trey Swords, Morgan Donour and J.T. Swords.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Swords; sisters, Sarah Patrick, Adeene Browning; brother, James Swords
