Mary Wilbur ‘Dinks’ Kornegay Thornton passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Dugan Memorial Home, after a period of declining health. She was born in West Point on August 7, 1922. A graduate of Delta State University, she worked for Baxter Laboratories in Chicago, IL and Cleveland, MS before marrying Carl F. Thornton, who preceded her in death. They lived in Centerville, LA and in Angola, Africa, before retiring to West Point. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Point and the Mississippi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harriet and Henry J. Kornegay and her siblings, Lucille, k. Ball, Frances K. Williams, Vivian k. Simmons, Elizabeth k. Harper, and Henry Jackson Kornegay, Jr. She is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews, all of whom are grateful for her love through the years and for the attention she unselfishly showered on their parents. A private family graveside service was held in Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday June 25, 2015.
