James Neal Bivens, 92, passed away December 1, 2020 at the State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS. He was born in West Point, MS July 31, 1928.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Porter James and Eva Miller Bivens and one sister, Kay Bivens Bryan. He was a founder of Christ Methodist Church, West Point, MS. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, West Point, where he served as an usher for 12 years.
After serving 3 years in the Unites States Navy during World War II, Neal was employed with Babcock and Wilcox for many years. He retired from the Civil Engineering Division at Columbus Air Force Base after 30 years of service.
Neal was an avid Clay County historian. He enjoyed searching antique stores and flea markets.
Neal was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was his greatest treasure and his first priority.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Coleman Bivens, three daughters, Lynn Utsey (Joe) Cordova TN, Lisa Morris (Mike), Watson, LA, Beth McKee, West Point, MS, one son, Jim Bivens (Michelle), Pontotoc, MS, one brother, Hugh Miller Bivens, Albuquerque, NM, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Neal will be laid to rest in a private family graveside service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, West Point, MS. Reverend Buck Buchanan will officiate the service. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is handling all arrangements.
