Rick Mathews

Charles R. Mathews, born January 4, 1946 went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2020. He was born in Gainesville, GA to Louie Bell Mathews and Nyleen Winfield Mathews. He attended Vigor High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1964. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. He retired from Shell Oil and lived most of his life in Mississippi until he moved to Daphne, Al. He was a proud Marine, and a loving and caring brother, uncle and friend. He had a big heart, he loved big, and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his family and friends. He loved sharing stories of his life. He is survived by his siblings, Bettye Sue Mathews Colbert (Frank), John Mathews (Pearl), Thomas Mathews, Becky Mathews Leech (Bo), Mike Mathews (Diane); as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Bell Mathews and Nyleen Winfield Mathews; brothers Louie Bell Mathews Jr. and James F. Matthews; niece, Nicole Matthews Castillo; great nephew, Christian Castillo; nephew, Thomas Mathews Jr.; and sister in law, Yvonne Matthews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22 from 10:00 a.m -11 a.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, 869 E Broad St, West Point, MS 39773. A graveside service with military honors will be 11:30 AM Thursday at Cedar Bluff Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful and caring staff at Saad’s Hospice in Mobile, AL.
