Steve Lamar Mathis passed away Friday April 18, 2025 at NMMC-Tupelo at the age of 71. He was born February 14, 1954 in Columbus to the late Joe Lee Mathis and Charsie Coggins Walker. Over the past several years, Steve has dedicated his entire life to caring for his wife, Mary of 48 years. The unwavering love and commitment he demonstrated to her every day will forever be etched in our memories. While he cherished his children, his love for his grandchildren was unparalleled, and the special bonds they shared were truly remarkable. Steve will be fondly remembered as the epitome of a grandfather. Additionally, he will be celebrated for his infectious laughter and ability to bring joy to everyone he encountered.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Thursday April 24, 2025 at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Allen officiating. Visitation will be 2-3 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Kruger, Terry Pitts, Joey Ingram, Anthony Mathis, Ben Davis, Jonathan Coleman, Jake Mathis, Eli Ingram.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Mathis of West Point; daughter, Dawn Coleman (Jonathan); sons, Robert Mathis, Steve Mathis, Jr. (Heather); brothers, Wayne Mathis, Joe Mathis; step father, Lowell Walker; grandchildren, Alex Mitchell, Jake Mathis, Zach Mathis, Kara Mathis, Sierra Mathis, Avery Pinkerton, Eli Ingram, Stevie Marie Mathis, Mckinna Mathis, Raeleigh Mathis, Bradley Cummings; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters, Tonya Mathis, Cathy Mathis; son, Rodney Mathis; sister, Diane Gill; stepmother, Genie Mathis.
